2009 Results

Lots of ONR members were out pounding the pavement or running trails at the first of the year. Below are results from the first few races of the year. If I have left you out, let me know.

Resolution Run - January 1, 2009 - Bur-Mil Park
Tom Szott finished 7th overall with an 18:27, while Arthur Sterkenburg was second Masters in 19:53. Christie Strupe (23:45) and Pam Connor (26:52) both finished first in their age groups.

Winter Duathlon Series

#1 - Northeast Park - Glenn Cook placed second overall in 1:02:54.

#2 - Hagan Stone Park - Andy Mitcheltree was first overall in 1:11:38, while Glenn finished second overall in 1:14:45.

#3 - will be Sat. March 7th at Salem Lake starting at 10AM.

Groundhog Gallop at Northeast Park

In the 20K, Randy Mercer finished 13th overall (2nd in age group) with a time of 1:31:22, while his wife, Amy, crossed the line not far behind in 1:37:39 (2nd in age group also).

In the 8K, Eleanor Ellender came in from out of town to win the overall female title in 37:18 and Michael Hunt finished third in his age group in 40:34.

Congrats to the Myrtle Beach Marathoners

Derrick Heard finished in 3:22:47, Arthur Sterkenburg crossed in 3:30:30, while newlywed Jim Camp finished in 3:30:49.

Walt Disney World

Brian and Marianne McDonald went down to Florida to compete in the Walt Disney World Goofy Challenge. In case you don't know what that is - you run a half-marathon on Saturday and then run a full marathon on Sunday.

They ran the races together finishing the half in 2:36:59, followed by 5:56:55 for the marathon. What an awesome job!!! Congrats to you both - what a great way to start the New Year!

THUNDER ROAD RESULTS!!!







Congrats to all those who went down to Charlotte this past Saturday.
In the full marathon Scott Douglas had a PR finishing the race in 2:48:33 and was fourth overall, while Cindy Barbour crossed the tape as the fourth female with a time of 3:15:59 (PR also). Benji Jones was first in his age group with a time of 3:01:57 and Mark Wear came across the finish in 3:19:56.

In the relay we had a relay team to place in the top three in each category.
The all women's team of Jordan McAmmond, Allison Peters, and Jen Goff finished first overall with a time of 3:13:57. Off 'n Running team number 5 (Laura Eynon, Claire Basista, and Marianne McDonnald) finished eighth among the all women's team with a 4:35:52.

Marty Ballew, Mike Basista, and Christie Strupe finished second among the mixed teams with a 3:29:22, while John Dewey, Curtis Swisher, and Dwight Jacobs placed second in the all men division in a 2:37:23.

Off 'n Running team 3 (Jim Camp, John Davidson, Derrick Heard) finished with a 3:18:09. Rodney Kopp, Brett Murphy, and Dennis Duquette came across the finish line in 3:32:30, while Arthur Sterkenburg, Jim Messina, and Abrin (team member for the day) finished in 3:34:12. Bobby Refenattie, Carlos Gutierrez, and Peder Harris crossed the tape in 3:48:05.

Victory Half Marathon

Half Marathon
Nick Liversedge was the overall winner with a time of 1:19:38, while Mary Beth Errington was the overall female winner (1:35:47).

Marianne McDonald crossed the line in 2:32:42 (a one minute PR) and Brian McDonald finished in 2:32:44.

Great job guys and good luck to everyone in the Thunder Road Relay, the Triad Trail Race, and the upcoming Reindeer Romp 5K.

GOBBLER RESULTS!!!

It was a cold morning, but lots of race team members came out for the 7th Annual Greensboro Gobbler at Country Park on Thanksgiving morning.

We had three guys in the top 10 - Tommy Boles was sixth place in 16:50, Joe Sauerbrey was seventh in 17:16, while John Dewey crossed the line in 17:20 (8th place).

Donny Lake was third masters finishing 16th overall in 18:11, while Anne Popek was 2nd overall female (1st Masters) with a great time - 18:23!

Race Results

Sorry, I am a week behind - here are results from 11/8 and 11/9

In the Outerbanks Half Marathon Dwight Jacobs finished 19th overall in 1:18:16 (5th Master's finisher).

At the second trail series run at Gibson Park, Chris Foster finished fourth overall in 30:41, while Brian McDonald was ninth overall (second in his age group) with a time of 38:36. Marianne McDonald came across the line in 1:06:12 to finish 5th in her age group.

This past weekend 11/15 and 11/16
At the Richmond Marathon - Laura Eynon came across the line in 4:13:36, while Pamela Connor finished in 4:29:57. John Connor crossed the tape in 4:50:14.

At the San Antonio Marathon - Christie Strupe finished in a great time of 3:51:40 while Marty Ballew ran a 4:02:55.

In local action - Free to Breathe 5K at Grandover Parkway - John Dewey took second place in 17:38, while Allison Peters took the female top honors in a time of 20:04. Mary Beth Errington was third overall female crossing the line in 20:41. Michael Hunt ran with his daughter Rebecca (8 years old) - they finished with a time of 32:35.

CONGRATS WEEKEND RACERS!!

There were some big races this weekend!
Steve Cowie ran the City of Oakes marathon in Raleigh finishing 8th place with a time of 2:37:11 - Great Run!!!

Jen Gapin ran the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday with an impressive 3:08:10 to finish 113 of all women and 40th in her age group. There were 37,000 runners!!

In some local action at the 25th Annual Mercy Five Miler in Winston-Salem, Cindy Barbour and Amy Mercer showed up and kicked butt!! Cindy was second female in 32:13 and 9th overall, while Amy was third female (10th overall) coming through the finish in 32:42. Great job ladies!!

Good luck to those racing in the Outer Banks full and half marathon this coming weekend!
